A kaleidoscope of colours and motifs within a diamond shaped pattern. You can find opened and closed ‘sensu’ fans, ‘choucho’ butterflies, and ‘kiri’.  Butterflies have been a popular symbol in Japan since the Nara period, 710 to 794 AD.  They are signs of joy and longevity. The ‘kiri’ often also called the Princess Tree.  It was traditional to plant a tree when a baby girl was born, and to make a dresser from the tree for her wedding gift.

This vintage kimono was sourced from the Shizuoka area of Japan.  It is approximately 30 years old.

Handmade by self help groups in Cambodia.

Dimensions: 19cm x15cm.
