Our handy pouch, to keep a few essentials together, stylishly.

A bright collection of floral mons, Kiku and Tatewaku, sit within Kasumi, clouds, on this kimono fabri. Clouds are a sign of high status.

Kiku, the chrysanthemum, is the flower of the Imperial House and and often used as an icon of Japan itself (it features on Japanese passports).  Tatewaku are the vertical wavy lines, which represent the steam rising from the ground during the early warmth of spring.

The style of the fabric pattern is EDO KOMONFUJI / SAMEKOMON. These are patterns made from repeated dots, and can be any pattern. Samekomon means ‘Shark fine pattern’: the dots of the pattern resembling sharkskin.

The fabric is a silk woven with a pattern which adds sheen and texture.

This vintage kimono was sourced from the Osaka area of Japan.  It is approximately 30 years old.

Handmade by self help groups in Cambodia.

Dimensions: 24cm x17cm.
