A delightful and delicate pattern of Fuji cover this silk kimono. 

Fuji, the wisteria plant was fist celebrated by Aristocratic society in the Heian era 794-185AD, it signifies love, support and tenderness.  The background features Guruma wheels, linked to the wheel of Karma in the Tale of Genji. 

Gold painted details highlight the pattern, adding an extra dimension. 

The pattern is also printed on a rinzu silk kimono: a kind of damask silk which has motifs woven into it’s surface, for extra lustre and texture.

This vintage kimono was sourced from the Osaka area of Japan.  It is approximately 20 to 30 years old.
