A delightful pattern of Ume and Noshi cover this silk kimono.

Ume, plum blossom is a favourite within Japan, it’s beauty and fragrance being reflected across art forms.  it is the first blossom of the year to bloom, and represents endurance and good fortune. Noshi are strips of ribbon, tied and given as good luck charms: this follows from and old fishermen’s tradition of giving strips of tied abalone as talisman when venturing out to sea.

Inside the strips, you find ‘Ayame’ iris, ‘Kiku’ chrysanthemums, ‘Momiji’ maple leaves and ‘Tsubaki’ camellia flowers.

This vintage kimono was sourced from the Osaka area of Japan.  It is approximately 30 years old.
