MONIKO STORE

Our stylish and functional purse, hand made from vintage kimono. It has 4 inside pockets/sections, plus a zippered coin sections and 5 card slots in the main part. The bottom area opens out to give 4 more card slots and another pocket/section.

The pattern covering this purse is called 'Asanoha', or 'Hemp Leaf’ is one of the most popular traditional patterns, the regular geometric pattern, though abstract, represents overlapping hemp leaves. As a geometric motif it is not associated with a particular season so it can be worn throughout the year.  It is also connected to growth and children's health, since hemp is durable and grows quickly.

The design also features 'kasumi' clouds that represent elegance and high status.

This vintage kimono was sourced from the Osaka area of Japan.  It is approximately 30 years old.

Handmade by self help groups in Cambodia.
