This silk kimono fabric is adorned with the classic repeating ‘seigaiha’ pattern, called ‘blue waves’, or fish scales,  'shippou’, a never ending pattern of interlocking circles meaning gemstones or treasures, and 'kikkou' with 'hanamon'inside: kikkou, the hexagonal pattern resembles the tortoiseshell and thus is associated with longevity.  The hanamon is a floral family crest.

The base cream silk fabric is woven with 'tsuyushiba', crescent shaped motif that symbolises dew drops on grass, which gives the fabric additional texture.  It means freshness and so is most commonly found on summer kimono.

This vintage kimono was sourced from the Osaka area of Japan.  It is approximately 20-30 years old.
