A collection of popular Japanese design motifs adorn this fabric, including ‘sakura’ and  'ume' blossom, 'kiku', ‘ayame’ and 'botan' flowers, and ‘momiji’.   Kiku, the chrysanthemum, is the flower of the Imperial House and and often used icon of Japan itself (it features on Japanese passports). Botan, peonies, are known as the King of Flowers in Japan where they represent longevity and steadfastness. Ayame, the Iris flower is widely admired in Japan: it is a sign of strength and the sword shaped leaves are symbols of warriors in the past.

Momiji, maple leaves symbolise autumn. Japanese traditionally admire and revere autumnal leaves just as they celebrate blossom in the spring.

The fabric is a silk, with patterns woven into the fabric giving with a textured finish. Some elements are highlighted in gold.
