Ginkou Kimono Purse 3046A

MONIKO STORE

Our stylish and functional purse, hand made from vintage kimono: use as a travel accessory, as it can accommodate passports and boarding passes, or as a colourful day time clutch clutch to hold your essentials.  The gingko purse features 6 divided internal sections, plus one zipped section, and credit card slots to keep everything together.

The Kikkou pattern spreads over most of this navy fabric: also called the Fortune Hexagon, this much loved design signifies long life as it resembles the tortoise shell, and the tortoise was thought to live for one thousand years.  ‘Momiji’ maple leaves, 'kikyo' flowers, ‘sakura’ and 'ume' blossom, sit within the kikkou.

The fabric is damask silk: a silk woven with a pattern to give added texture.  The pattern here is called 'sayagata', a repeating pattern of the Buddhist swastika symbol: comprising of left- and right-facing swastikas joined by lines.

This vintage kimono was sourced from the Osaka area of Japan.  It is approximately 20 years old.

Handmade by self help groups in Cambodia.
