Fukuro Obi Clutch 3816D

Our signature clutch, hand made from vintage 'obi': the sash worn with kimono at formal occasions.

A classic pattern of ‘kikkou’ and ‘botan’.  The hexagonal kikkou pattern resembles the tortoiseshell and is, thus, associated with longevity.  ‘Botan’ the peony, is known as the king of flowers in Japan as also symbolises steadfastness.

Woven with pale red, pink, baby blue, gold and silver threads on a black silk background.

This vintage Fukuro Obi was sourced from the Osaka area of Japan.  It is approximately 30 -40 years old, and in excellent condition.

Handmade by self help groups in Cambodia.
