Fukuro Obi Clutch 1452B

MONIKO STORE

Our signature clutch, hand made from vintage 'obi': the sash worn with kimono at formal occasions.

A classic pattern of ‘tsuru’.  Tsuru, the crane frequently appears on wedding kimono as it represents hope, longevity and good fortune, because of its fabled life span of a thousand years. It also represents fidelity, as Japanese cranes are known to mate for life.

Woven with metallic pale green, gold and silver threads on a dark orange silk background.

This vintage Fukuro Obi was sourced from the Osaka area of Japan.  It is approximately 30 -40 years old, and in excellent condition.

Handmade by self help groups in Cambodia.
