Fukuro Obi Clutch 3251A

Our signature clutch, hand made from vintage 'obi': the sash worn with kimono at formal occasions.

A delightful pattern of Ume cover this silk obi. Ume, plum blossom is a favourite within Japan, it’s beauty and fragrance being reflected across art forms.  it is the first blossom of the year to bloom, and represents endurance and good fortune.

The Ume are woven in silver threads, over a background best described as ‘petrol’: under normal light it is dark blue, but contains some teal blue and reddish tones that are more obvious in some lights or at certain angles.

This vintage Fukuro Obi was sourced from the Osaka area of Japan.  It is approximately 40 years old, and in excellent condition.

Handmade by self help groups in Cambodia.
