Fukuro Obi Clutch 3102D

MONIKO STORE

Our signature clutch, hand made from vintage 'obi': the sash worn with kimono at formal occasions.

A classical bold pattern of gold/silver and red/orange 'tsuru' crane, a motif that frequently appears on wedding kimono as it represents hope, longevity and good fortune, because of its fabled life span of a thousand years. It also represents fidelity, as Japanese cranes are known to mate for life.

Ryuusu, wandering streams are often found on fabric designs, usually linking other design motifs, as we see here.

This vintage Fukuro Obi was sourced from the Osaka area of Japan.  It is approximately 30 to 40 years old, and in excellent condition.

Handmade by self help groups in Cambodia.
