Our signature clutch, hand made from vintage 'obi': the sash worn with kimono at formal occasions.
The pattern is a dynamic Kiku, chrysanthemum, the Flower of the Imperial House. This motif is often used as icon of Japan itself (it is the emblem on Japanese passports) and represents rejuvenation and longevity.
It is woven with bright orange, cream and gold metallic threads, and the dots are metallic pastel shades. Please note that the more loosely woven areas should be handled gently as the thread can be caught on jewellery.
This vintage Fukuro Obi was sourced from the Osaka area of Japan. It is approximately 20 to 30 years old, and in excellent condition.
Handmade by self help groups in Cambodia.
