Fukuro Obi Clutch 2663

Our signature clutch, hand made from vintage 'obi': the sash worn with kimono at formal occasions.

Delicate purple, dark coral, pastel blue, cream and and white Kiku and are scattered across this black obi.    Kiku, the Chrysanthemum, is the Flower of the Imperial House and and often used icon of Japan itself (it features on Japanese passports). It represents rejuvenation and longevity.

A Kiri sits proudly amongst them: the Paulownia plant, which is often called the Princess Tree.  it was traditional to plant on elf these trees when a baby girl was born, and to make a dresser from the tree for her wedding gift.

This vintage Fukuro Obi was sourced from the Osaka area of Japan.  It is approximately 20 to 30 years old, and in excellent condition.

Handmade by self help groups in Cambodia.
