Our signature clutch, hand made from vintage 'obi': the sash worn with kimono at formal occasions.
A charming arrangement of bold ‘obtain’ and 'kiku'. Botan, peonies are known as the King of Flowers in Japan, where they represent longevity and steadfastness. Kiku, the Chrysanthemum, is the Flower of the Imperial House and and often used icon of Japan itself (it features on Japanese passports). It represents rejuvenation and longevity.
Woven with pink red, powder blue, white silver and gold threads. Please note that the more loosely woven areas should be handled gently as the thread can be caught on jewellery.
This vintage Fukuro Obi was sourced from the Osaka area of Japan. It is approximately 30 years old, and in excellent condition.
Handmade by self help groups in Cambodia.
